Housing Authority
Johnson County Housing Authority administers the Housing Choice Voucher Program (formerly called Section 8) across Johnson County – excluding the City of Olathe.
The HCV Program is a federal government program which assists very low-income families, the elderly, and people with disabilities with affording decent, safe, and sanitary housing in the private market. Program participants can choose any eligible housing unit, including single-family homes, townhouses, and apartments, with rent partially covered by a subsidy paid directly to the landlord.
Housing Choice Voucher Program Waiting List Closed
The Housing Choice Voucher Program Waiting List is currently closed. There are no plans to open the waiting list in 2026 due to federal budget constraints.
Portability
Portability paperwork from other jurisdictions can be sent to portability@jocogov.org. Households currently assisted by Johnson County Housing Authority wishing to port out to another jurisdiction should contact their Occupancy Specialist.
