Update: Day Services COVID-19 Testing Protocol

Thursday - Oct. 14, 2021

lab technician.

As we continue to monitor the decrease in COVID-19 positivity rates in Johnson county, we are updating our protocols related to potential exposure to a COVID-positive individual in our day service programs and when a quarantine period is required. Moving forward, if an individual tests positive, vaccinated individuals within the group will not be asked to quarantine. Unvaccinated individuals within the group will be asked to quarantine for either 14 days, or until a negative test result is received, with the test being administered 5-7 days post exposure.

In instances of a potential exposure, individuals will be asked to mask diligently and be tested within the appropriate testing window after exposure. These changes follow current guidance provided by Johnson County Health Department and the CDC. Our intent is to minimize programming interruptions and avoid unnecessary quarantine periods for the individuals we support.

JCDS will also be piloting a rollback of our weekly COVID testing protocols. Effective Monday, Oct. 18, 2021, selected small, offsite programs where individuals have been vaccinated will no longer require weekly testing. This change is being considered to more closely mirror Johnson County Government testing protocols. At this time, all individuals being supported in larger program spaces, such as those located at the Elmore center, and day programs based out of residential settings will continue to test weekly.

We will continue to utilize safeguards such as face masks, disinfecting surfaces frequently, encouraging hand washing and using hand sanitizer. JCDS will also continue to utilize small groups within programs to minimize potential exposures and support physical distancing.

If you have questions or concerns regarding any of our mitigation efforts, please feel free to reach out to me through email or call 913-826-2342. Thank you!
