Program Changes Due To Delta Variant

This week three individuals supported by JCDS tested positive for COVID-19, resulting in a complete closure of our retirement program at the Elmore Center for both quarantine and sanitization purposes. Those testing positive include a mix of vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals, with some experiencing symptoms.

In response to this outbreak, JCDS will be making some immediate changes in our programs in an effort to mitigate the increase in COVID cases and risks associated with the Delta variant, and to help avoid further widespread program closures. As of Monday, August 9th, JCDS will resume once weekly COVID testing for both individuals in service and our staff, regardless of vaccination status. We will be utilizing the same tests we’ve previously utilized, for individuals in service the test is a swab of the nostril near the opening that will be administered by our nurses.

We will also be making changes to our program spaces and processes to limit potential exposures. These strategies will include Team Leaders developing small groups within programs that will spend their days together, minimizing contact with individuals outside their group; staggering lunch times to allow for distancing in break room spaces; and a return to social distancing in all program areas. All of these safeguards will be in place for all individuals, regardless of vaccination status.

Continued safeguards will include the use of masks, cleaning protocols, encouraging hand washing and the availability of hand sanitizer. We are encouraging staff, individuals, and families to plan activities that allow for physical distancing and avoid large crowds.

If you have questions or concerns regarding any of our mitigation efforts please feel free to reach out to me at Angeline.Anderson@jocogov.org or 913-826-2342. Thank you!
