Commissioner's Message

I am a lifetime Johnson Countian with deep roots in the 6th district. I hail from a large civically engaged family. Caring about community and people have been core values in my life.

The 6th District includes the bulk of Johnson County’s unincorporated area that stretches to the southern and western county lines. It is an area marked by the traditions and hallmarks of original small towns. Approximately 36 percent of the county’s 477 square miles remains unincorporated, even though Johnson County’s population has passed the half-million mark. In addition to the rural area, the 6th District includes the communities of Gardner, De Soto and Edgerton, along with the western portions of the city of Olathe, and parts of Spring Hill. The district also includes the townships of Gardner, Lexington, McCamish and Olathe.

Funds raised by the fund benefit the Friends of Johnson County Mental Health Center.

Commissioner Allenbrand has been involved in the civic community for decades as a leader and volunteer and has supported the Olathe community at large.  She is a member of the National Association of Planning Councils, American Health Care Association, 100 Women in Giving Olathe Schools, and Women Who Mean Business. She has been appointed to the Heart-Funding Council, UKHS, and Olathe Planning Commission. Commissioner Allenbrand belongs to the Olathe, Overland Park, Gardner and De Soto Chambers of Commerce.

Shirley resides in Olathe with Chase and Scout, her Havanese dogs. She raised two children in Johnson County and later welcomed a step-daughter into the family. Today, she enjoys taking time to spoil her four grandchildren.
