Commissioner's Message

I am pleased to serve as your 3rd District Commissioner member of the Board of County Commissioners and have a passion for public service. I am an avid reader and ran onto this most interesting quote written 2,400 years ago which seems extremely timely:  from Plato's Republic, Socrates speaking: “Thus Herodicus' struggles against death left him no time for the business of life.” Time to get back to the business of life.

District 3 encompasses the southeast corner of Johnson County.  It includes southern Overland Park, the southwest corner of the city of Leawood, the city of Spring Hill, the unincorporated community of Stilwell, Aubrey Township and a large portion of the unincorporated area of Johnson County.

About the Commissioner

Commissioner O’Hara was born on January 7, 1951 and was raised on a farm near Mapleton, Kansas. She graduated from Kansas University with a BS in Education. Commissioner O’Hara worked as a general contractor and developer. She now owns small industrial buildings in Olathe and has an ownership in a family manufacturing business in Olathe.

Commissioner O’Hara served as 3rd District Chair for the Republican Party from 2007-2009 and served as Representative for the Kansas 27th District from 2010-2012. In addition, she served on the City of Olathe Board of Code Review and the JoCo Heritage Trust Fund, serving as chair on both boards.

Commissioner O’Hara has 5 children and 7 grandchildren. Her hobbies include music, cooking and horses. She loves to bike (rail to trails out of Osawatomie and Ottawa) or workout on her Nordic Trac and stationary bike. She encourages everyone to find time to put sweat equity into their health accounts and take their vitamins because C, D3 and Zinc appear to be helpful in building the immune system. Trust your own initiative for your health instead of hoping the government has the answer.
