Commissioner's Message

I am honored to serve as your 3rd District Commissioner. I believe how we show up matters in ensuring effective government. Like so many of our fellow residents, my family and I are Johnson Countians by choice and are committed to the community we’ve called home since 2011.

District 3, which covers the Southeast/Southcentral portions of our county, is home to unincorporated communities with rich histories, award-winning schools and arboretum, well established and newer housing options, and vibrant shopping, dining and recreational amenities. District 3 includes portions of the cities of Spring Hill, Overland Park, Leawood, small portions of Olathe and Gardner, as well as Aubry, Oxford and Spring Hill Townships.

About the Commissioner

Elected in 2024, Julie Brewer brings more than 30 years of leadership experience in the nonprofit and for-profit sectors. Commissioner Brewer has held leadership roles and served on local boards, councils, and committees covering a wide range of vital areas that impact the well-being of residents including public safety, education, transportation, digital access, health, and housing and homelessness. She and her family have called Johnson County home since 2011.

Commissioner Brewer retired in July of 2023 as the Executive Director of United Community Services of Johnson County – the local nonprofit focused on education and advocacy, convening, planning, and resource allocation for initiatives that address the well-being of residents in Johnson County.

She has been recognized with the Friend of Education Award through the Blue Valley School District, is a Work of Heart Recipient through CASA of Johnson and Wyandotte Counties, and was honored for her service on the Johnson County Department of Health and Environment’s Public Health Leadership Council. She is a graduate of Leadership Overland Park and Kansas Leadership Center.

Commissioner Brewer and her husband Steve live in Overland Park. They are proud parents of two adult daughters, Delaney and Arden, who are Blue Valley West graduates. And doting grandparents to two grandsons.
