Accessing Services

Johnson County Mental Health Center's same-day, walk-in services, which we call Access to Care, can be a first step for anyone needing to access mental health services in Johnson County. You will meet with a member of our staff, a mental health professional, who will listen to you and ask questions to better understand the support you need. They will help you determine the next steps for care, whether that is a connection to community providers and resources or additional services through Johnson County Mental Health Center.

Access to Care services are available from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday through Friday at JCMHC's Shawnee and Olathe locations.

Accessing Services Tip

Individuals accessing services are asked to bring in insurance cards and/or proof of finances, photo ID and proof of Johnson County residency so we can quickly determine sliding scale fees for service.

We offer a sliding fee scale for Johnson County residents. Before your first appointment we will determine your fee based on household income, family size, and financial obligations. Please bring in proof of residency and any income information you have to assist in setting this fee during your first appointment.

Your health insurance may cover a portion of our services. As part of the initial assessment you will learn what your particular insurance may cover.

Our same-day, walk-in services, which we call Access to Care, are available from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday through Friday.

Crisis services are available 24 hours a day. Nighttime, weekend and holidays emergency services are available by calling 913-268-0156.

While treatment times may vary for each individual, after your first appointment your mental health professional can provide you with an estimate of the time required to address your particular concerns. Length of service will vary based on services needed, goals being addressed and barriers to goals you wish to achieve.

We offer a wide range of both individual and group therapy services including CBT, DBT, EMDR, etc. All therapy services are provided with using a solution focused brief therapy framework.  Therapy services are targeted towards an identified goal and to get you to where you have the skills needed to handle similar issues on your own without the need for mental health services.

There are specific forms of identification that are required.

Our staff will advise you as to what types of treatment or services may be helpful to you. You can choose to decline any treatment including medication.

In some cases, individuals struggle with understanding their symptoms and how services might be helpful to them. If this is the case, we have staff that can assist in trying to engage individuals in the community and encourage them to participate in services. Ultimately, the client needs to participate in services for it to be effective and beneficial in meeting their needs. Individuals do have the right to not participate in services if they chose not to.
