Tax relief program accepts applications until April 15

The application window for a new property tax relief program for adults 65 and older who meet income requirements is now open through April 15.

Those who qualify for the program will be eligible to receive a payment of up to $200 in 2024 after the Johnson County Board of County Com missioners approved a pilot program in the 2024 budget.

The program will also be available to disabled veterans who meet the other criteria as well.

During the application period, those who meet the criteria can submit an application by mail, email or in person.

Forms are available under the “Johnson County Senior Disabled Veteran Property Tax Relief Program” heading at jocogov.org/PropertyTaxRelief.

Residents will need to provide proof of income using forms from their 2023 income tax return or their 2023 Social Security statement and documentation of military disability, if applicable. In order to receive a property tax relief payment, participants in the program must:

Residents who would qualify for this program may also qualify f or other programs to receive relief on their property tax bills as well. Some Johnson County cities offer programs to their residents. Check your city ’s website to see if a program is available.
