Survey: We want to hear from you

We are asking for just a few moments of your time to share your views and suggestions so that The Best Times can best serve your interests. Your participation in the 2022
readership survey is entirely voluntarily. The survey ends March 1.

By answering the eight questions in the survey, you’re helping us gain a clear understanding of what you would like to see in The Best Times pages in the issues ahead. That input/suggestion(s) will help us produce a magazine that’s a reflection of current and future information and concerns of Johnson County’s 60-plus population.

What are we doing right? What should we change, eliminate, provide or improve?

It’s been said change is the only constant in life. That’s especially true in publications. The Best Times remains a work in progress as it celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2022 as publication for a growing and changing population of aging adults in Johnson County.

The 2022 readership survey provides an opportunity to consider additional change(s) to The Best Times by going online at jocogov.org/BestTimesSurvey or completing the form on page 5 of the print magazine and mailing to:

The Best Times
111 South Cherry St., Suite 3300
Olathe KS 66061.

The challenge at hand is how to address rising printing and mailing costs to an increasing population of aging adults in order to deliver The Best Times to readers by the best means possible in the 21st century.

The Best Times has been mailed free to its readers since its beginning in September 1982. Ten years ago, the mailed circulation was nearly 57,000 households. It’s now 80,000- plus.

For the most part, The Best Times has been a cost-neutral publication with advertising revenue. That has become more challenging in recent years. Costs to print the magazine
(paper and ink) have gone up. Annual postal increases also have increased, averaging between 3 to 5% for bulk mailing over recent years.

To help in addressing increased costs, we began offering a digital option for readers in 2021. By providing their email address, readers will receive a link to directly access The
Best Times on their smart phones, iPads, laptops or home computers. The link will connect readers to both the latest edition and past issues of the magazine.

The digital Best Times is also provided to its signed-up readership approximately a week before the printed magazine reaches the mailboxes by the U.S. Postal Service.

Signing up for the digital option is as easy as clicking on jocogov.org/TheBestTimes, completing a short form and submitting the information. The form asks for name,
mailing address and email. Once that information is received and placed into the magazine’s database, readers who choose the digital option will no longer receive the print edition by mail.

At this time, unless a digital form is submitted, The Best Times readers will continue to receive their magazine in the mail.

Your input and suggestions are valued in helping us to change what we can in 2022 and beyond to enhance and continue The Best Times’ mission at “informing and supporting
Johnson County’s 60+ adults,” as noted on every magazine cover page. That mission remains unchanged.

Thank you for completing the 2022 readership survey.
