The Johnson County, Kansas Medical Examiner’s Office seeks the assistance of the public to help locate next of kin and/or friends to claim remains.
Efforts are made to locate the next of kin to claim the body, including posts on this website and social media, comprehensive internet searches and local law enforcement resources. If no responses are generated, the process will begin for Johnson County to take jurisdiction and begin county disposition procedures.

Unidentified Persons
An unidentified man, believed to be approximately 5'7" with a thin build and a tattoo on his back, was found in early April 2023 near U.S. Highway 69 under the 103rd Street overpass.
Despite extensive local and national efforts to identify him, including forensic genealogy and DNA analysis, his identity remains unknown. On May 28, 2026, he was laid to rest at Pleasant View Cemetery in Shawnee, Kansas. The Johnson County Medical Examiner's Office extends its sincere appreciation to Amos Family Funeral Home & Crematory for its assistance with the burial.
The Medical Examiner's Office continues to actively pursue identification and is partnering with the DNA Doe Project, a nonprofit organization that uses investigative genetic genealogy to help identify unknown individuals and return their names to them. As new information becomes available, efforts to identify this individual will continue.
