Apply for WIC

WIC serves financially eligible women, infants, and children under the age of 5. Fathers, stepparents, foster parents, grandparents and guardians are also encouraged to apply for WIC benefits for any children in the household under the age of 5.

Eligibility

To be eligible for WIC benefits in Kansas, you must:

  • Be a resident of Kansas and
  • Have a child under 5 years old or be pregnant and
  • Be income eligible based on the WIC income guidelines (WIC staff will help determine income eligibility)

You may be automatically income eligible if you participate in other programs such as:

  • KanCare (Medicaid Title XIX)
  • SNAP
  • TANF

What to Bring to Your WIC Appointment

For your WIC appointment, please bring all required documents listed below. Missing documents may delay services or result in a temporary certification.

Proof of Residency Required (Dated Within the Past 30 Days)

You must bring proof that shows your current name and residential address and is dated within the past 30 days.

Acceptable examples include:

  • Driver's license with current address
  • Car insurance with current address
  • Current utility bill
  • Vehicle registration with current address
  • Rent or mortgage receipt
  • Paystub that lists your name and current address

Proof of Household Income Required (Past 30 Days)

You must bring proof of all household income from the past 30 days for everyone in your household. Incomplete income information may delay services.

Acceptable examples include:

  • KanCare card (Medicaid Title XIX)
  • SNAP benefits letter or SNAP card
  • Paystubs from the last 30 days
    • Monthly pay: 1 paystub
    • Biweekly pay: 2 paystubs
    • Weekly pay: 4 paystubs
  • Most recent tax return (if self-employed)
  • Written statement from employer (must include pay amount and pay frequency)

If you have more than one source of income, please provide documentation for each source.

Proof of Identity Required

You must bring proof of identity for the caregiver and each child being served.

Acceptable examples include:

Caregiver:

  • Driver’s license
  • Work or school ID
  • Birth certificate
  • Passport
  • Social Security card

Children:

  • KanCare card
  • Birth certificate
  • Immunization records
  • Passport
  • Social Security card
  • Birth confirmation letter

Temporary Certification

All required proofs are needed to complete a full WIC certification.

If all required proofs are not provided, you may receive a temporary certification that will expire after 30 days. If the required documents are not submitted within those 30 days, your certification will end and you will need to restart the application process.

If you previously received a 30-day temporary certification and did not provide all required proofs, you will not be able to schedule another appointment until all documents are received.
