U.S. Army seeking participation on advisory board for former Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant

Four water towers at former Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant site

The U.S. Army needs your help! In this case, it’s not for serving in the military but lending your interest and expertise to an advisory board.

The Department of Defense is conducting the Installation Restoration Program at the former Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant. The goal is addressing hazardous substances, pollutants and contaminants remaining from past activities at what was once was an active military installation.

Stakeholder participation is important for this process and an effort is underway to assess the level of community interest in forming a Restoration Advisory Board.

The RAB is intended to improve public participation by involving the community in the restoration decision-making process. Members will have the opportunity to review and comment on plans and activities relating to the ongoing environmental studies and restoration activities at the former Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant.

Expectations include serving a one- to two-year term, regularly attending meetings and serving as liaisons to the community. If you are interested, please contact Scott Smith or Kathy Baker by April 18.
