Final Johnson County registered voters number is in

On Tuesday, July 26, the Johnson County Election Office finalized the number of registered voters in the county ahead of the upcoming primary election on Aug. 2.

The deadline to register to vote was July 12. Over the last two weeks, the election office has been busy verifying received applications, which included newly registered voters and others who updated their information, such as a change of address.

“There’s a great deal of interest in the election,” said Fred Sherman, Johnson County election commissioner. “We’re excited to see so many people take an interest in exercising their right to vote.”

There is a total of 456,287 registered voters in Johnson County. They are broken down into the following political parties or unaffiliated:

  • Democratic – 140,562
  • Libertarian – 5,756
  • Republican – 186,532
  • Unaffiliated – 123,437

By comparison, ahead of the Aug. 4, 2020 primary election, Johnson County had 432,961 registered voters with the following party affiliations or unaffiliated:

  • Democratic – 130,245
  • Libertarian – 5,121
  • Republican – 186,285
  • Unaffiliated – 111,310
