Fatal plane crash near Johnson County Executive Airport

A plane taking off from Johnson County Executive Airport went down at 10:20 a.m., Feb. 13., shortly after take-off within the airport property, south of 151st Street (north of the runway), in Olathe. One individual is confirmed dead. Identification is pending notification of family. The Johnson County Airport Commission, Kansas Highway Patrol, Overland Park Fire Department, Johnson County MED-ACT, Olathe Fire Department and Olathe Police Department responded to the scene. The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the incident. 

Johnson County Airport Commission shut down the airport immediately following the crash. It is expected to remain closed until noon, Feb. 14. To secure the scene, 151st Street, from Pflumm Road to Quivira Road was shut down and will remain so until at least until noon, Feb. 14, as well. Those traveling in the area are asked to use 143rd Street or 159th Street as an alternate route.

This is the second plane crash this month from Johnson County Executive Airport. The initial incident happened Feb. 4. No injuries were suffered in that crash. The last time a fatal accident occurred at Johnson County Executive Airport was Dec. 31, 2019.
