Merriam Plaza Library

Front entrance and walkway of Merriam Plaza Library

Merriam Plaza Library continues Johnson County Library's 70-plus year history in Merriam, following the closure of the former Antioch Library, which opened in 1956 as the system’s first official branch, and the opening of the new location in 2024.

The library, located a quarter-mile north of Antioch Library, was built in partnership with the City of Merriam on the Merriam Community Center campus. The two facilities share the parking structure and an outdoor plaza.

At 15,000 square feet, it’s approximately the same size as Antioch Library’s branch space. The library features an abundance of natural light, reservable rooms and comfortable furnishings, and a drive-thru for returns and holds pickups.

The meeting room is named in honor of Alfonso and Mary Webb, whose Webb v. School District 90 case desegregated Merriam schools in 1949 and laid the foundation for 1954’s historic Brown v. Board of Education decision.
