Chairman Eilert to retire after three terms as chairman

Following his 44th year as an elected official in Johnson County, Chairman Ed Eilert is set to retire from the Board of County Commissioners.

Chairman Eilert will preside over the board’s first weekly business session of 2023, taking place Thursday, Jan. 5 at 9 a.m. in the Hearing Room at the County Administration Building.

The meeting will be Chairman Eilert's last, ending 16 years on the board. He spent the past 12 years as chairman and did not seek re-election in 2022.

“There is nothing more challenging and nothing more rewarding than public service. Thank you for choosing me for that opportunity,” Chairman Eilert said.

Prior to his time in Johnson County Government, Eilert was mayor of Overland Park for 24 years after serving on the city council for four years. Learn more about the Chairman’s public service career in this article.

A public farewell for Chairman Eilert will take place Friday, Jan. 6 from 4-6 p.m. at the Johnson County Arts & Heritage Center, 8788 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park.
