Accepted forms of proof are:

  • Seniors 65 and older – driver’s license, Medicare card, Metro reduced fare card or JCT Special Edition ID card - Apply
  • Youth 6-17 – student ID, Medicaid card, Metro reduced fare card or JCT Special Edition ID card - Apply. 5 and under are free.
  • Disabled – Disabled parking ID, Medicaid card, Metro reduced fare card or JCT Special Edition ID card - Apply

The fare box will take all modern U.S. coins and bills up to $20. If you overpay, the driver will provide a change card for use on future trips aboard The JO.  The change card cannot be redeemed for cash, only future rides.

Riders 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Riders 5 and under are free. Riders should provide their own car seat for infants. Mass transit buses do not have seat belts.

Buses will stop along the route on a hand signal anywhere in Johnson County except on The JO Connex (556/856), 664 and 710 which only stop at designated locations. Riders can only board buses between first and last time points on bus schedules (or the bus shelter on Robinson at the JCT facility). Riders cannot board on exit/entrance ramps, highways or interstates, right-turn lanes or other possible unsafe locations.

JO 31 Day passes gives you access to all bus systems including KCATA (Metro), KCK (Unified Government Transit) and Independence (IndeBus) systems. Exceptions are Metro routes 34X Liberty, 170 Blue Springs and 152 Lee’s Summit/Raytown. The Standard Xpress 31 day pass ($75.60) is not valid on The JO's 710 K10 Connector. The 31 day pass for 710 K10 Connector is $117.60

The $50 and $25 31 Day pass are available at store.kcata.org and many locations throughout Kansas City.

To Use 31 Day passes - Once the passes are dunked into the farebox, they are acivated and the start (the day the pass is dunked into the farebox) and end dates (31 consecutive days from the day the pass is dunked in farebox) will be printed on the pass. If a rider accidentally dunks a pass, no reimbursement for the pass will be given. The pass will be valid 31 consecutive days from the first day the pass was dunked into the farebox.

Day Passes from The Metro or IndeBus is accepted to travel on local routes on The JO, The Metro, Unified Government (UG) Transit and IndeBus. The Day Pass costs $3 and is available on board Metro, MAX and IndeBus routes. When customers purchase the pass directly from a Metro or IndeBus farebox for $3 cash; the pass is good until midnight on the date purchased.

The Day Pass is valid on local JO service, which includes routes 556-Metcalf Plaza Connex, 575-75th Street-Quivira, 672-JoCo Downtown Midday, 856-Metcalf Plaza Connex Flex, and 875-75th Street-Quivira Flex. It is also valid for all UG Transit routes, all IndeBus routes and local service on The Metro and MAX. The Day Pass is not valid for commuter express routes on The JO or The Metro.

Once the Day Pass has been purchased from Metro or IndeBus, simply swipe the pass in the reader on top of the farebox. On UG Transit, just show the bus operator the pass.
