The Johnson County Department of Records & Tax Administration (RTA) is a consolidated office, combining the duties of the Register of Deeds, County Clerk and Archives and Record Management. Generally, we record and index all land record documents, create, maintain and calculate the annual tax roll, archive county records, and provide customer service.

This website provides a list of recording fees as established by Kansas statute and information about document filing requirements. It also provides the general recording rules for Johnson County. Paper and electronic filings are accepted. Electronic submitters must execute a Memorandum Of Understanding with RTA and a submitter's Memorandum of Understanding with an approved portal provider.

Current year and Tax Roll Reports, including Mill Levies by Taxing Authority, Mill Levies by Taxing Unit, and the Annual Abstract of Taxes are available online. The tax roll is created based on fair market values provided by the County Appraiser. After calculation, taxes are collected by the County Treasurer.

RTA is also responsible for all parcel level mapping. Besides updating the automated mapping system, we provide a variety of map options for purchase.

Online view access to recorded documents and/or the tax roll are available through subscription service. Each service requires a signed contract.

County records are stored at the Archives and Records Management Center in the Johnson County Operations Center located at 19310 W. 159th Street, Olathe, Kansas. Various county records dating from 1857 are stored at the facility. Johnson County follows the record retention and destruction schedule established by the Kansas Historical Society.
