Celebrating Johnson County Government's women leaders as we wrap up Women’s History Month

Women's History Month: Penny Postoak Ferguson, Susan Pekarek, Kendra Neal Wright

Since 1987, we have celebrated women’s contributions to history, culture and society each March. From Johnson County Government’s top leadership to the management team to the front-line staff, women make an impact on this organization and on our community every day.

While we honor and celebrate all of Johnson County Government’s women leaders and staff, as we wrap up Women’s History Month, we wanted to share three examples of women who have been featured in different ways this month.

In the March issue of Public Management, a magazine produced by International City/County Manager’s Association, a special section entitled “SheLeadsGov” featured women in local government management from around the world. One of them was our county manager, Penny Postoak Ferguson! Access the feature at this link on page five (the second full spread).

The Kansas Water Environment Association and the American Water Works Association - Kansas chose Johnson County Wastewater’s General Manager, Susan Pekarek, for its Women’s History Month Feature. Susan is the first woman to lead JCW and joins a small list of women who run organizations in the water sector in the U.S. View her feature on LinkedIn.

With this year’s Women’s History Month theme being “Women Who Advocate for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion,” it was the perfect time to feature our Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Program Manager, Kendra Neal Wrighton our website and in some social media posts (please find links to them in the web article.)

Thank you to these and all of the stellar women employees who help lead, power and support our organization’s efforts on behalf of the community.
