A countywide property-imaging project kicks off in Johnson County today. The Johnson County Appraiser’s Office has contracted with Tyler Technologies, Inc. to take high-resolution street level photos of the exterior of every property in the county. The county uses these photos to create land record information used in the appraisal process. Kansas law requires counties to update property information every six years in an effort to maintain accurate data on every parcel in the county.
“Correct up-to-date property information is crucial to ensuring fair and equitable property values as well as making the appraisal process more efficient,” said Paul Welcome, Johnson County Appraiser. “This project will provide high-quality photos of every house, commercial building, gazebo - every structure with value- on approximately 187,000 parcels of land.”
Tyler Technologies field staff will photograph properties from customized white vans that will be clearly marked with signs indicating they are conducting an imaging and address verification project for the county. All personnel assigned to this project will have photo identification badges and will take photographs from public right-of-way whenever possible.
The imaging crews are expected to be in the area for several months. During that time they will be in constant communication with the Appraiser’s Office. Each week, the Appraiser’s Office will post the crew’s schedule at www.jocogov.org/countypropertyphotoproject.
