New Century AirCenter has become the first aerospace industry certified site in Kansas and the only one available in the midwest. The AEROready™ Certification validates the southwest Johnson County region’s readiness to attract aerospace companies. It also ensures an ample supply of labor, quality site, opportunities to customize labor training and utility and transportation infrastructure in place.
AEROready™ certified sites must have an airport with at least 10 acres of available land for economic development, available industrial building(s) or hangar(s) suitable for aviation development and supporting navigation aids for corporate aircraft with a minimum 5,000-foot runway.
Because industry certifications are important to real estate consultants when making site selection decisions, the city of Gardner, Johnson County Airport Commission, Evergy and Southwest Johnson County EDC, strategically partnered to attain the AEROready™ Certification. This certification directly addresses factors critical to the success of attracting aerospace/aviation operations at the newly available 700 acres at the AirCenter.
“This is an ideal location for companies who need high-quality sites and building with national and international access to transportation via land, air and rail,” said Ed Eilert, chairman of the Johnson County Board of County Commissioners. “This certification will give New Century a critical tool for target marketing to the aviation/aerospace community.”
“Taking New Century AirCenter to the next level is essential to enhance our national aviation footprint,” said Aaron Otto, executive director, Johnson County Airport Commission. “As the third busiest airport in the state, the AirCenter meets the qualities needed to attract and sustain companies in the aerospace industry, including those that require airport support services and infrastructure.”
