Johnson County Board of County Commissioners meeting today

The Johnson County Board of County Commissioners will once again meet in the Hearing Room at 111 S. Cherry St., Olathe, while following CDC guidance*. The public can still watch the live, or recorded, meeting broadcasts at boccmeetings.jocogov.org and on Facebook Live. All documents for the meeting are also available at boccmeetings.jocogov.org. An afternoon study session will include a CARES Act discussion and an update on Transit.

Over the past several months, thousands of viewers tuned in to observe the BOCC regular and special meetings as well as, the Recovery Planning Task Force, the budget meetings and even a study session. Now that the commission meetings have returned to the Hearing Room, it is our hope that people will continue to engage with county government.  

“Government is at its best when the public is informed and involved,” said Chairman Ed Eilert. “In addition to our meetings, there are plenty of opportunities for residents to serve either on board committees or as a volunteer in one of our numerous programs.”

While the county manager is working with the budget staff and department heads on the FY 2021 budget, the county will hold BOCC work sessions each Thursday in June for pre-budget discussions on certain departments or programs. Budget discussions will begin in July, starting with the proposed budget overview.

*To prevent the spread of COVID-19, the public will notice changes in the physical room set up as well as some new procedures, including:

  • Physical distancing of at least 6 feet.
  • Limited seating in the hearing room.
  • Additional limited seating in the adjacent lobby, with audio available.
  • Sanitizing practices in place.

People who want to speak during Public Comments should arrive by 9:15 a.m. and will need to sign in by 9:25, shortly before the start of the meeting at 9:30. The Chairman and/or Deputy County Clerk will call them to speak in the order they sign up.

Anyone wishing to speak to a specific item on the Business agenda will need to sign in before that item is read into the Record.

The public can still email comments to the [email protected], or, record them by voicemail, by calling (913) 715-0430  before noon on the Wednesday, before the Thursday BOCC meeting. Comments received by noon will be shared with the entire Board prior to the meeting.
