It’s time again to meet at the historic Johnson County Square in downtown Olathe for another Johnson County Old Settlers celebration, beginning Thursday, Sept. 10, and ending Saturday, Sept. 12.

At the Johnson County Government booth, you can pick up information about county government, departments and services. Test your JoCo trivia with our Spin-to-Win wheel for candy or prizes.

Our booth will be located just to the north of the Johnson County Administration Building (111 S. Cherry St., Olathe). Brush up on your Johnson County and Old Settlers trivia before you spin the wheel!

  • The Johnson County Square, as a public gathering spot in the heart of Olathe, is 169 years old. It was platted when the city was created in 1857.
  • Johnson County, as a local government, also celebrates its 169th year on the first day (Sept. 10) of Old Settlers when three appointed county commissioners met for the first time (Sept. 7, 1857) in a log meeting house at Gum Springs (Shawnee) as a county tribunal.
  • Old Settlers, as an event, turns 128 years old in 2026. The Old Settlers’ reunion, as it was originally called, officially began on Sept. 17, 1898.
  • The Grange Pup, as a popular food item, is 78 years old. The Grange Pup was created in 1948 as a fundraiser for Morning Grange at Old Settlers.
  • Old Settlers, as residents, must have lived in Johnson County for at least 45 years.
