Stronger Together program offers $400 grants to support neighborhood gatherings
Application Closed
Due to overwhelming response, we are closing the Stronger Together application, as the number of applications we received has exceeded the grant funds available at this time. We are making the Stronger Together toolkit available online to help neighbors plan and host their own block parties. Thank you for your interest and enthusiasm. We hope to offer this program again in the future.
The Johnson County Department of Health and Environment in partnership with the Kansas Health Foundation, Kansas Gas Service and The Andersons, Inc. is offering $400 mini grants to help Johnson County, Kansas, neighborhoods host block parties designed to bring neighbors together, foster trust and strengthen community resilience.
In the face of increasing social isolation and growing public health and climate-related challenges, these events are designed to spark connection, build trust and create local networks of support that are essential during emergencies like extreme heat, tornadoes or power outages.
“Strong, connected neighborhoods are essential to public health and safety,” says JCDHE director Charlie Hunt. “The Stronger Together program empowers residents to build relationships with their neighbors that can make a critical difference during emergencies.”
Through a simple application process, neighborhood groups can apply for funding to host inclusive, low-barrier block parties that reflect their unique identities and needs. Selected participants will also receive a planning toolkit with event ideas, outreach tips and resources related to emergency preparedness and heat safety.
Neighborhood groups can apply for the grants through Sept. 15 at jocogov.org/stronger-together.
