Statement from BOCC Chairman Mike Kelly in support of KC2026 transit plans
Today, Johnson County Board of County Commissioners Chairman Mike Kelly released the following statement:
“On behalf of Johnson County Government, I want to express our support and enthusiasm for KC2026’s transit plans during FIFA World Cup 26™ next year. From expanded bus service to convenient park-and-rides to walking and biking routes, our residents and visitors from around the world will have many convenient options to safely navigate and explore the metro area during the biggest event we have ever experienced. This will help promote tourism, drive economic growth and support local businesses in our region.
I am pleased that four of the 15 Connect KC26 Region Direct Service locations for transport to and from FIFA Fan Festival™ are in Johnson County, along with one Connect KC26 Stadium Direct park-and-ride for Match Days. This will greatly help connect local and global fans to all the action and excitement.
Johnson County is proud to support KC2026’s transportation efforts with plans for enhanced public transit services. Branded as “Johnson County United” this includes an airport shuttle pilot and a countywide circulator route to better connect Johnson County residents and visitors to KC2026’s transportation system as well as signature amenities and activities within Johnson County.
We fully support KC2026’s efforts, and as a planning partner, we’re excited to continue our collaborative work to deliver an incredible FIFA World Cup 26™ event in the Kansas City metro area. Please watch JohnsonCountyUnited.com for more information.”
