Safe Kids Johnson County and State Farm are teaming up to keep kids safe with a free car seat checkup event on Saturday, Feb. 22, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at McCarthy Chevrolet, 675 N. Rawhide Road in Olathe.

No appointment is needed — first come, first checked. Please allow 30 minutes for each seat being checked.

The car seat check is part of the Good Neighbor Car Seat Safety Program, a national initiative to increase access to education and resources, help inspire behavior change and create a culture of safety for children and families.

Why it matters:

  • In 2022, one in three children under age 13 who died in a crash were unrestrained.
  • Studies examining misuse among users of child car seats estimate that more than half of all car seats are not used or installed correctly.

Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians will educate families on proper car seat installation. “I love my job as a child passenger safety technician,” said Marty Vinson with the Johnson County Department of Health and Environment. “It’s amazing to meet and educate caregivers on safely transporting children in their care.
