New Century Commerce Center lands Kansas Certified Site designation

Construction of large grey commercial building

Johnson County’s New Century Commerce Center has landed a new certification thanks to the collaboration with some strategic partners. The Kansas Department of Commerce has designated the New Century Commerce Center as a Kansas Certified Site. The Commerce Center is the only site in the Kansas City metro area and the ninth site in the state to earn this designation.

Because industry certifications are important to real estate consultants when making site selection decisions, the Johnson County Airport Commission, Evergy and Southwest Johnson County EDC strategically partnered with the Kansas Department of Commerce to attain the Kansas Certified Site designation. Properties receive this designation once they demonstrate it is primed for development and ready for investment.

This new certification, along with the site’s existing AEROReady™ Aviation and BNSF Railway certifications directly addresses factors critical to the success of attracting new industries to the New Century Commerce Center.

“We pledge to assist our efforts with the New Century Commerce Center site through various Department of Commerce communications channels. We look forward to future opportunities to work with you and to provide site marketing assistance whenever possible,” said Lieutenant Governor/Secretary of Commerce, David Toland.

“This is an ideal location for companies who need high-quality sites and buildings with national and international access to transportation via land, air and rail,” said Greg Martinette, Southwest Johnson County EDC President. “This certification gives New Century a new tool to attract new industries to the site.”

“This certification raises the national footprint for the New Century Commerce Center,” said Aaron Otto, Executive Director, Johnson County Airport Commission. “The site meets the qualities needed to attract and sustain companies in the aerospace industry, including those that require airport support services and infrastructure.”

About the Johnson County Airport Commission

The New Century Commerce Center is one the largest multi-tenant business centers in the metro area.  Along with convenient interstate highway access, the Commerce Center also has a short line railroad with more than six miles of track providing on-call rail service to the BSNF transcontinental mainline. It is a true multimodal center and one of the few logistics parks in the United States where air, rail, and road come together.

The Commerce Center is both Aero Ready Certified and a BNSF Certified Site. Complementing the Commerce Center, the New Century AirCenter is the second-busiest airport in Kansas and when coupled with Johnson County Executive Airport they sit on more than 4,000 acres, creating one of the busiest airport systems in Kansas.
