Update: More information about the Paratransit (RideKC Freedom) eligibility audit is now available in this article.

Johnson County Transit will temporarily pause acceptance of new applications for RideKC Freedom in Johnson County (formerly Special Edition, including Swift/Project Search, etc.) starting May 1, 2025, as Transit begin a comprehensive review of its paratransit program.

This effort supports Transit's strategic plan and reflects its commitment to improving how it serve its customers. During this time, Transit will:

• Evaluate current ridership and service needs
• Evaluate our eligibility process
• Refresh the paratransit application
• Develop a new Johnson County paratransit ride guide with clear, up-to-date information

Important Notes:

• No impact on current service or scheduled rides
• Current customers and approved riders will not be affected
• Applications submitted by 11:59 p.m. on April 30, 2025 will be processed in the order received
• We will not accept or hold new applications during the pause to avoid backlogs

Transit anticipate announcing a reopening date in July. More information will be shared closer to that time.
