The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada has given an Award for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting to Johnson County for its Popular Annual Financial Report for the fiscal year that ended Dec. 31, 2024.

The Award for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting is a prestigious national award recognizing conformance with the highest standards for preparation of state and local government popular reports.

In order to receive an Award for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting, a government unit must publish a Popular Annual Financial Report, whose contents conform to program standards of creativity, presentation, understandability and reader appeal.

The 2024 Popular Annual Financial Report was the first of its kind produced by Johnson County. The report provides a high-level overview of Johnson County’s financial affairs and a snapshot of how the county serves its residents.

The county has also received other previous accolades from the GFOA. For 38 consecutive years, the county has received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for its Annual Comprehensive Financial Report. In 2025, the award went to approximately 20% of the nation’s counties, and Johnson County was only one of two to receive it in the State.
