The Federal Aviation Administration has announced $13.4 million in new grant funds to support runway reconstruction and signage at New Century AirCenter.

The funds from the federal government’s Airport Infrastructure Program will be used to support the complete reconstruction of Runway 18-36 at New Century AirCenter.

New Century AirCenter is the second-busiest airport in Kansas. It has 96,000 operations annually and approximately 183 aircraft based on-site. Its 7,300-foot Runway 18-36 is a critical piece of infrastructure that serves corporate, military and general aviation needs for the region.

The total funding for the project is approximately $45 million, including $37 million from federal funds, $1.2 million from the State of Kansas and $6.8 million in local funding. The local share for the project is funded entirely by the Johnson County Airport Commission, with no Johnson County general fund dollars included.

Runway construction is expected to begin in 2027 and will be designed to minimize operational disruptions.
