Johnson County Household Hazardous Waste to temporarily pause collecting pesticides and oxidizers

Bottles of chemicals such as bleach, weed killer and pesticides

Due to a fire at the processing facility located in Ohio, many items that are accepted at the Johnson County Household Hazardous Waste facility will not be accepted until further notice.

Item the facility is not accepting at the moment include pesticides, herbicides, yard chemicals, and other poisons, as well as oxidizers, pool chemicals, and bleach.

This decision was made because the Household Hazardous Waste facility has reached its storage capacity for these materials and can no longer safely accept more of them.

Residents who have these materials and need to get rid of them are asked to use them up, see if a neighbor or family member can use them, or hold onto them until we are able to once again safely accept them.

If you have any questions, please contact Trent Thompson, Solid Waste Program Manager, at trent.thompson2@jocogov.org or 913-715-6938.
