Johnson County Election Office to notify residents of polling locations

Beginning Tuesday, Oct. 11, Johnson County voters will begin to see the attached postcard in their mailboxes. The postcards include important information about Election Day voting locations.

Although for most people, this will be the same place they voted for the primary election in August, for some, it may be different. Residents will also have the option to advance vote at one of the advance polling locations or to vote by mail.

“It’s important that residents take a close look at the postcards ahead of Election Day,” said Johnson County Election Commissioner Fred Sherman. “On Tuesday, Nov. 8 voters will be required to vote in-person at their designated polling site under current Kansas election laws.  The postcard includes information about a voter’s assigned Election Day polling site location, as well as information on the options to advance vote at the polling location where that’s available or vote by mail.”

Information cards are being sent to households instead of to each individual voter in the household. The Election Office will also send out specific notification cards to each registered voter who will vote at one of the few polling sites that changed from the Aug. 2 election.

Although the postcard is one way to verify Election Day voter location, this information is also available on the Election Office’s new website. The site officially launched in September, but for many people who monitor election results, the site will be a new experience for the Nov. 8 election.

“We’ve worked hard to make the site as user friendly as possible, so voters and others can navigate the webpages and find what they’re looking for quickly,” said Sherman.

The new site features a “How do I” section, search, archives, registration information, details about candidates and elected officials, a section for candidates, how to find a polling place, a page to register to vote and much more.

A special section on the Nov. 8 election is also now available. General election results will be available on the website.
