Board of County Commissioners recognizes Johnson County Wastewater’s Environmental Achievement Award
At its March 6, 2025 meeting, the Board of County Commissioners and County Manager’s Office recognized Johnson County Wastewater for winning the Environmental Achievement Award for Workforce Development. The award was given by The National Association of Clean Water Agencies.
This award recognizes the Employee Progression Program spearheaded by JCW’s Assistant Director of Operations and Maintenance – Collections, Raul Romero. This innovative program has reduced the vacancy rate in O&M Collections to 2%.
The Progression Program creates a clear career path for O&M staff and supports skill enhancement, which results in increased job satisfaction, higher earning potential, an expanded network, personal growth and long-term stability for all participants. There is a 100% retention rate for program participants.
NACWA awards are given annually, and honorees are recognized at NACWA's Winter Conference. Raul Romero accepted the award on behalf of Wastewater at the conference on Jan. 29.
