Johnson County’s Audit Services has conducted a performance audit that addresses participation in the Women, Infants and Children program. WIC, a federally funded food and nutrition education program, serves eligible women, infants, and children under the age of five years.

This audit finds that thousands of Johnson County residents participate in WIC, but about 6,500 are eligible but not participating. It recommends information and data matching to help increase participation.

Audit Services conducts performance audits on a regular basis. Audits provide an independent, objective assessment of the stewardship, performance or cost of policies, programs or operations, and are essential to government accountability to the public.

The purpose of audits can vary, depending on the scope of the audit and the audit objectives. You can view previous year’s reports on the Audit Reports webpage.
