Application now open for expanded 2026 property tax relief program for low-income residents
Today, Johnson County began accepting applications for an expanded property tax relief program designed to benefit more residents who fall within federally set very low income limit ranges.
Residents may learn more about the program and access an application at jocogov.org/JoCoPropertyTaxRelief. The application window for the program opened today and will close on April 15, 2026.
Residents applying for the program will need to provide proof of income, and to receive a property tax relief payment, participants in the program must also:
- Be a resident of Johnson County
- Own and occupy their home
- Have a home with a maximum 2025 appraised value of $500,000
- Be current on property tax payments for their residence
- Be at or below the Very Low Income limits set by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development

Residents who qualify for the program will be eligible to receive a payment by check in 2026 to help offset the county’s portion of their property tax bills. The payment amount a qualified applicant receives will not exceed the county’s portion of the resident’s property tax bill.
