2024 general election results certified in Johnson County
Today the Board of County Canvassers certified the official results of the Nov. 5, 2024, general election.
Total voter turnout was 72.79 percent. Of the 348,594 ballots cast, 88,417 were cast in person on Election Day, 204,865 were cast early in person, 48,643 were cast by mail, and the remainder were provisional.
The Johnson County Election Office spent the days leading up to the canvass on Nov. 15 reviewing and verifying challenged and provisional ballots as well as write-in votes.
“This election is a testament to the tireless efforts and dedication of more than 2,300 election workers,” Johnson County Election Commissioner Fred Sherman said. “Their commitment to ensuring the integrity of our elections is truly commendable.”
On Tuesday, Nov. 12, a post-election audit was conducted in accordance with state law for the general election. Three contests and six precincts were randomly drawn after Election Day, in addition to a close-race audit involving two additional precincts in Kansas House District 49. A bi-partisan team of election workers performed a manual hand count in the selected precincts. The results of that audit were compared with unofficial results produced by the certified voting system. The audit confirmed the manual count matched the machine’s tabulation.
