Why aren't our libraries open until 9:00 a.m. and why aren't more libraries open on Sundays?

We are always pleased to hear that our libraries are popular places where residents want to spend more time.

The library restructured hours in 2015 to open earlier – based on our own door counts. More people were arriving early, fewer were staying later. We were opening at 10 a.m. and moved to open at 9 a.m. and close at 8 p.m., based on the data revealed in our usage statistics and to reflect what a majority of our patrons were doing.

Four of our libraries around the county have Sunday hours – Antioch, Blue Valley, Central and Corinth – and we hope one of them is conveniently located for you. Our door counts on Sundays have shown that we’re offering a substantial number of service hours for our communities. We’ll be opening a 14th library in 2018 in Shawnee, and we’re determining whether to have Sunday hours there. We’ll continue to analyze our visitor traffic to ensure we’re open when we need to be and where we need to be.
