General Notice To Control Noxious Weeds

K.S.A. 2-1314 Noxious weeds; control and eradication; listing.

It shall be the duty of persons, associations of persons, the secretary of transportation, the boards of county commissioners, the township boards, school boards, drainage boards, the governing body of incorporated cities, railroad companies and other transportation companies or corporations or their authorized agents and those supervising state-owned lands to control the spread of and to eradicate all weeds declared by legislative action to be noxious on all lands owned or supervised by them and to use such methods for that purpose and at such times as are approved and adopted by the Kansas Department of Agriculture. The term noxious weeds shall mean Kudzu (Pueraria lobata), Field bindweed (Convolvulus arvensis), Russian knapweed (Centaurea repens), Hoary cress (Cardaria draba), Canada thistle (Cirsium arvense), Quackgrass (Agropyron repens), Leafy spurge (Euphorbia esula), Bur ragweed (Ambrosia grayii), Pignut (Hoffmannseggia densiflora), Musk (nodding) thistle (Carduus nutans L.), Johnsongrass (Sorghum halepense) and Sericea lespedeza (Lespedeza cuneata)*Bold print: plants currently found in Johnson County, Kansas.

Impact of Noxious Weeds

Weeds, including those declared noxious, impacted the U.S. economy by an estimated 55 billion dollars in 2012.  Invasive species, including noxious weeds, are the #2 threat to native biodiversity, worldwide. Additionally, noxious and invasive weeds pose a threat to electrical utility reliability, municipal water sources and the safety of our food supply.

General Information and Restrictions

Please note: Herbicide products MUST be applied to land located in Johnson County, Kansas, otherwise the sale will be voided.

The Noxious Weed department does not sell brush killer or "dandelion spray"; we do not sell herbicides for gravel driveways, arenas, fence rows or bare ground.

Glyphosate purchases are restricted to 2 1/2 gallons per season.  PastureGard HL and Remedy Ultra not available until May 15 and are sold for the specific use of Sericea lespedeza control only.

We accept CASH or CHECK only.  (Checks are preferred as we may not be able to provide change for large bills)
