Human Services volunteer orientations provide a format where first-time volunteers will learn about the history and mission of the department, receive information about each volunteer opportunity, and complete appropriate paperwork. When volunteers receive an assignment, they will attend training for that specific program.
Anyone interested in becoming a Human Service volunteer team member must attend a General (GEN) orientation. General orientation is one hour in length. You will complete all necessary paperwork at the general orientation session such as a volunteer application and background check release.
If you are interested in becoming a Meals on Wheels driver or Catch-a-Ride driver, please plan to also attend the Meals on Wheels (MOW) or Catch-a-Ride (CaR) training. Meals on Wheels and Catch-a-Ride training is one hour in length. This training follows the General Orientation. Please bring your driver's license and auto insurance with you to orientation as we will need to make a copy for your volunteer file.
While we encourage children to accompany their parents volunteering, we advise not bringing children under the age of five to an orientation session as it can be distracting to the other volunteers. If you need special accommodations for the orientation, please contact Brandy Hodge at 913-715-8859 or Brandy.Hodge@jocogov.org
