JCDS employee tests positive for COVID-19

We are coordinating with our local health officials and community partners to ensure that we are prepared and are taking every available safety precaution for individuals in service and staff during this pandemic. The purpose of this communication is to inform you that one of our employees tested positive for COVID-19 and to describe the notification process.

The employee was in the workplace on Memorial Day and wore a mask when within six feet of coworkers and individuals we serve. As required by Kansas Department of Health and Environment, the employee is isolating at their home. In addition, those who worked with the employee have been notified and will follow Kansas Department of Health and Environment guidelines for low risk exposures and will continue to work while wearing a mask at all times.

We are also making testing available to individuals served and those who shared workspace with the employee. Please understand for confidentiality reasons, we cannot share specific details or names. If you would like to receive COVID-19 testing, Johnson County is offering free testing to all county residents who are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms.

The Johnson County Department for Health and Environment is facilitating contact tracing for residents who test positive for COVID-19. If you have not been notified for testing, then you nor your family member were at risk for exposure.

Since the beginning of this pandemic in the U.S., we have taken the threat of COVID-19 seriously. The Elmore Center has been closed since March, and we have been providing services in the homes. We require staff to wear masks when physical distancing is not possible while providing care, and physical distancing has been required among staff who continue to work at the Elmore Center. Staff have also been disinfecting shared spaces in the residences throughout the day and have an adequate supply of personal protective equipment to mitigate the risk.
