Johnson County Developmental Supports is excited to announce that Jessa Molina has been named a recipient of the 2020 Direct Support Professional of the Year award for Kansas from The American Network of Community Options and Resources. Molina joins 54 other recipients of ANCOR’s 2020 Direct Support Professional of the Year awards, chosen from a field of 300 outstanding nominees.
DSPs such as Molina play a crucial role in supporting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Molina works as the business account manager for JCDS. She also helps facilitate the End-Dependence Kansas Program for the agency. She offers career development support for individuals receiving services from JCDS and cultivates business partnerships throughout Johnson County.
“Jessa has been with our agency for three and a half years, and she is a fantastic champion for the people we support,” said JCDS Executive Director Chad VonAhnen. “She is a consummate professional who is compassionate, tenacious and devoted to our mission of providing choice-driven supports. We are incredibly proud to work with her, and this honor is well deserved.”
Since 2007, ANCOR’s annual DSP of the Year awards recognize outstanding professionals who deliver long-term supports and services to people with IDD. The awards celebrate the important role DSPs play in ensuring individuals with IDD are included and empowered in the community, and raise awareness about a direct support workforce in crisis.
DSPs perform this essential work in a field where a workforce crisis has led to turnover rates in excess of 50 percent and vacancy rates that average 18 to 20 percent nationally.
The 2020 DSP of the Year awards will be presented in a virtual ceremony on Wednesday, May 6.
