Community Development

The mission of the Johnson County Community Development Office is to secure federal, state and local funding for community development activities, to provide leadership in coordinating these activities, and to ensure continued funding through accountable, efficient and effective use of these funds in serving low- to moderate-income residents in Johnson County.

The Community Development division has moved to the County Administration Building, Suite 2000, 111 S. Cherry, St. Olathe, KS 66061, and the phone number has changed to 913-715-2200.

Community Development Block Grant celebrates 50 year anniversary

Johnson County has qualified as an Urban County with the Department of Housing and Urban Development and been a successful administer of CDBG for almost 40 years. The county has administered almost 50 million in CDBG funds and benefited millions of individuals through projects such as emergency assistance, sewer rehabilitations and accessible sidewalk installations and minor rehabilitation programs.

Johnson County accepting applications for CARES Act Community Development Block Grant (CDBG-CV3)

Johnson County is requesting applications from eligible entities including cities in the Urban County, County Departments and non-profit 501(c)(3) and faith-based agencies for participation in the CDBG-CV3 program. The application deadline is April 11, 2024.
