Cities in Johnson County with Property Tax Relief Programs
Residents of Johnson County who qualify for one or more property tax relief programs may also benefit from applying for similar programs in the city in which they live. De Soto
The City of De Soto’s Property Tax Relief program is designed to rebate up to $500 of the city’s portion of property taxes for those who meet income guidelines. Special consideration is given to residents over the age of 65 and to veterans.
Edgerton
The City of Edgerton offers a Property Tax Rebate Program for owner-occupied homes for the city’s portion of property taxes. A special Senior Property Tax Rebate is also available for those aged 65+.
Lenexa
The City of Lenexa has a property tax rebate program to provide tax relief to Lenexa homeowners who meet certain criteria. It offers a rebate on the City’s share of a homeowner’s property taxes.
Merriam
Merriam offers a Residential City Property Tax Rebate Program that helps reduce the tax burden on income-qualified Merriam households by returning the city’s portion of property taxes. It is designed to assist residents whose income falls within the guideline for Low Income as established by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Mission
Mission offers a number of grant and outreach programs to help keep neighborhoods healthy and maintain a high quality of life for residents, including a Community Rebate Program that offers income-eligible residents the opportunity to receive a full rebate of City telephone, electricity or gas franchise fees for the year, a partial rebate of City property taxes and a partial rebate of solid waste utility fees.
Olathe
Olathe’s Residential Property Tax Assistance Program helps reduce the burden on income-qualified Olathe households by returning the City portion of collected property taxes. Opportunities are also available for qualifying veterans and military members.
Overland Park
The City of Overland Park offers a property tax rebate, in addition to other housing assistance, to help those in need of assistance continue to afford to live in their homes. Eligible Overland Park residents can get up to a 75% rebate on their city property taxes.
Prairie Village
Prairie Village’s Governing Body allocated funding in its 2025 budget for a property tax rebate program designed to alleviate the burden of home ownership due to rising property taxes. Qualified residents can apply to receive a 100% reimbursement of the city’s portion of property taxes, excluding special assessments.
Roeland Park
Roeland Park offers a property tax rebate program that rebates 100% of the city’s portion of property taxes to those who meet income guidelines, with special emphasis given to older residents and those with disabilities.
Shawnee
The City of Shawnee offers a number of rebate opportunities for those who meet income requirements, including on franchise fees for gas and electric bills and on Stormwater Utility Fees. Residents who qualify may also apply for a rebate of up to $500 on the city’s portion of property taxes.
