Fares and Passes in Johnson County
Bus Fares Returned June 1, 2026
Johnson County Transit resumed fare collection on bus routes on June 1, 2026, as part of the regional RideKC fare program.
Riders can pay with a contactless bank card, mobile wallet, RideKCGO app or physical RideKC pass. Cash is not accepted on buses.
This page provides fare, payment and pass information specific to Johnson County Transit services.
Where Things Stand
Phase 1 — Bus Service
Fares returned to Johnson County bus routes on June 1, 2026. This includes local RideKC routes operated in Johnson County and the 510 K-10 Connector.
Phase 2 — RideJoCo Freedom in Johnson County
Fares for Johnson County paratransit service are planned for later in 2026. Fare amounts, payment options and the implementation date will be shared before any changes take effect.
RideJoCo Freedom in Johnson County remains free until announced.
RideJoCo Microtransit
RideJoCo Microtransit already operates with a separate fare and payment system and is not part of the bus fare change.

Bus Fare Prices
Local bus fares apply throughout the regional RideKC bus system. The 510 K-10 Connector is the only RideKC bus route with a separate fare structure.
Local RideKC Bus Service
510 K-10 Connector
The 510 K-10 Connector has a separate fare structure:
Single ride: $4
Weekly pass: $35
30-day pass: $125
Reduced fares do not apply to the 510 K-10 Connector. Fare capping does not apply to the 510 K-10 Connector Route.
Ways to Pay
Contactless bank or prepaid card
Tap a contactless Visa, Mastercard or Discover credit, debit or prepaid card on the reader when boarding the bus.
Cards cannot be inserted or swiped. American Express is not currently accepted.
Mobile wallet
Use Apple Pay, Google Pay or Samsung Pay with an eligible contactless card.
RideKCGO mobile app
Purchase and scan fares and passes using the RideKCGO app, available for iOS and Android.
Physical RideKC pass
Physical day, weekly and 30-day passes are available for riders who do not use a smartphone or contactless bank card.
Weekly and 30-day passes do not activate until their first use.
Fare Capping and Transfers
Fare capping limits how much a rider pays when purchasing individual rides. Once a rider reaches the applicable daily, weekly or 30-day limit, additional eligible rides during that period are free.
Instead of providing traditional free transfers, RideKC uses fare capping to limit total spending.
To receive fare-capping benefits, use the same contactless card or mobile wallet every time you ride. The system cannot combine payments made with different cards or payment methods.
Fare capping is not available on or for the K10 Connector. Rides on that route won’t apply to any fare capping rules on other routes in the RideKC system.

- $4 per day
- $20 per week
- $62.50 per 30-day period
Reduced Fare
- $2 per day
- $10 per week
- $31.25 per 30-day period
Reduced-fare eligibility must be connected to the payment method being used for the system to apply the reduced fare and reduced fare caps. Fare capping is not available on the K-10 Connector. The regular $4 fare will be charged each time you board, so please make sure your account has enough funds for your trip.

Johnson County pass sales coming soon- fall 2026
Johnson County Transit plans to begin selling physical RideKC passes approximately one day a week beginning in late September at:

Free or reduced bus fares may be available to:
- Children and teens ages 6–18
- Adults age 65 and older
- Medicare cardholders
- Individuals who qualify based on income
- Individuals with disabilities
- Eligible RideKC Freedom customers
Children ages 5 and younger ride free.
The regional free and reduced fare program is currently administered by KCATA and United Way of Greater Kansas City. Applicants must complete an application and provide documentation supporting their eligibility.
Once approved, the rider’s eligible payment method must be registered to receive reduced fares and reduced fare-capping limits.

Already Enrolled in RideKC Freedom?
Eligible RideKC Freedom customers may qualify for free fixed-route bus service.
Customers using the RideKCGO app should connect their RideKC Freedom eligibility to their account. Customers who do not use a smartphone may request a physical pass through a participating RideKC customer service location.
Agency and Nonprofit Transit Pass Programs
Government agencies and eligible nonprofit organizations may apply to purchase RideKC passes in bulk for the people they serve.
Applications, order processing, payment and pass fulfillment are administered by KCATA.
