Juvenile House Arrest
The Juvenile House Arrest Program is the highest level of supervision available to youth who remain at home instead of going to detention. This program provides an alternative to incarceration.
The House Arrest Program is run from the Adult Residential Center.
Juveniles are monitored electronically through GPS, breathalyzers, and transdermal testing. House Arrest Officers (HAO) also show up at the youth’s home and at community locations (school, work, etc.) without warning.
There are three ways a young person can be put on House Arrest:
- Pre-sentence: Youth who are waiting for their first court appearance or trial and are ordered by the court to be supervised while they wait.
- Post-sentence: Youth who are waiting for out-of-home placement, evaluations, or treatment. Youth may also be placed on House Arrest as a condition of probation or as a result of a violation.
- Conditional release: Youth released from Kansas State Juvenile Correctional Facilities may be placed on House Arrest to provide added structure or to address a violation of their conditional release agreement.
Youth on House Arrest must stay at home but can still go to certain approved activities, including:
- School
- Treatment
- Religious life
- Employment
- Probation meetings
A client who violates the rules of House Arrest may be taken to Juvenile Detention or, if they are over 18, to Adult Detention. A hearing will happen within 48 hours.
