Orientation provides an overview of supervision requirements, available programs, reporting expectations, and department resources. Orientation sets the foundation for successful supervision and is required for all new clients.

  • Zoom:  Every Wednesday morning at 8 a.m.  (NEED NEW LINK)
  • In Person:  First & Third Tuesdays of every month at 2 p.m. at 12425 W 87th Street, Lenexa, KS 66215

The assigned probation officer will schedule and provide directions to the appropriate Orientation meeting.

Supervision includes regular check-ins - as determined by a risk/needs assessment score - office visits, field contacts, employment verification, and compliance with court-ordered conditions.
Clients can expect officers to:

  • Treat them with respect
  • Offer guidance and referrals
  • Provide resources and monitor progress toward completing requirements
  • Conduct in-person checks, up to 4 times monthly, to ensure community safety

Your responsibilities include engagement through communication, attending appointments, maintaining updated contact information, and staying compliant with all court-ordered conditions.

Fieldwork involves officers meeting clients at home, work, treatment facilities, or public locations in the community. This helps the department confirm living arrangements, provide support, assess safety, and respond quickly to concerns. Evidence-based principles have shown that engaging ongoing support in natural communities has increased long-term success. Community contacts are a normal part of supervision, and officers will identify themselves clearly and often conduct visits in pairs. Contacts could also be structured with law enforcement.

The Interstate Compact ensures that people on probation or parole who move to another state are supervised consistently and safely.  If you wish to move, you must first apply through your officer. The receiving state reviews your request and decides whether to accept supervision.
You must remain in the sending state until you receive written approval to relocate.

Courtesy supervision occurs when a Kansas supervising agency requests assistance from another Kansas jurisdiction to supervise a client living in that jurisdiction. You will still be responsible to your original jurisdiction, but local officers may complete check-ins, home visits, and monitoring on behalf of the sentencing county. Additional conditions may be imposed when transferring jurisdictions.

Court costs are typically paid to the Clerk of the District Courts. Many counties offer online payment portals, in-person cashier windows, or mail-in options.

Be sure to keep a receipt for all payments, as officers may request proof during supervision.
