Public Safety
Keeping the community safe is the Department of Corrections' top priority. We do this by supervising people in different ways, offering structured programs and supporting individuals across community-based and secure residential environments. We do this by:
- Monitoring and documenting client behavior, movement and compliance
- Providing structured supervision in community, residential and secure settings
- Delivering evidence-based programming that supports accountability and decision-making
- Facilitating cognitive, behavioral and life skills development
- Connecting individuals and families to community resources and services
- Coordinating education, employment and skill-building opportunities
- Supporting reentry planning and successful transition back into the community
- Responding promptly to violations and safety concerns
When individuals do not follow program requirements, facility rules or court-ordered conditions, consequences may include:
- Losing certain privileges
- Increased supervision or restrictions
- Changes in placement, including movement to a more secure setting
- Filing motions with the court, including probation violations
- Issuing arrest warrants
- Placing someone in custody when needed
The JCDOC works with law enforcement, prosecutors and the District Attorney’s Office to make sure people are held accountable and the community stays safe.
