Update: The scope of the project includes a new concession/restroom building for the softball quadrant two (fields 5-8), a new warmup/practice area, new synthetic field turf for fields 5-8, parking and utility improvements and a new maintenance building.
On May 19, 2021, the JCPRD Board approved a request to solicit pricing from Zimmerman Construction for individual construction bid packages for each portion of the phase two scope of work. Bid packages and change order amounts for each bid package were approved by the JCPRD Board in June, August and September. Formal change orders are in draft review for signature by the JCPRD Executive Director.
The first construction package identified as Phase 1A entry and parking configuration (PR #11) was approved by the JCPRD Board on June 16 in the amount of $243,989. A change order for the fields 5-8 synthetic turf conversion and softball concession 2 was approved by the JCPRD Board on August 18, 2021 in the amount of $3,036,936.
The final bid package for phase two was approved on September 20, 2021 for the maintenance building and parking lot improvements and was in the amount of $2,457,341. The project received a building permit for phase 2A on September 28, 2021, and demolition work for fields 5-8 and the satellite concession 2 building are nearing completion. Footing and foundation construction is scheduled to begin October 4, 2021.
The permit for phase 2B is still in review by Johnson County Wastewater and the City of Shawnee. The anticipated start date for the phase 2B scope is November 1, 2021 but is dependent upon permit issuance.
