IDD Crisis Resources
If this is an emergency, please call 911 and ask for a mental health unit.
For additional mental health support, call the Johnson County Mental Health Crisis Line at 913-268-0156 or 988.
This collection of community resources was assembled by a group of professionals throughout the state of Kansas as part of a Sequential Intercept Mapping (SIM) study. These resources are available to assist providers in navigating crises experienced by people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Johnson County, Kansas.
Behavioral Health
Behavioral health supports serve as a first-line resource to identify and address underlying factors contributing to a crisis, including mental health needs, behavioral challenges, housing instability, and other life circumstances. To access these services, please contact your MCO via the Behavioral Health number on the back of your Medicaid card.
The JCMHC provides access to care for walk-in intake. It is recommended to come early as people are seen on a first-come, first-served basis. At the JCMHC, you can request an assessment for community-based services. This includes functional criteria for diagnosis, case management, meds, therapy, wraparound services, etc.
- Main Phone Line: 913-826-4200
- Olathe Office (open 8 am – 5 pm)
- Shawnee Office (open 8 am – 5 pm)
To access the CBHT, the person must have a dual diagnosis of an IDD and a Mental Health condition. They must be IDD waiver eligible (waitlist or in services), complete intake through JCMH, and then can request CBHT or be referred by intake staff. If the person is already receiving services through JCMH, they can ask their current team for a referral to the CBHT.
- Due to caseload constraints, people may be placed with other professionals until openings become available. It is encouraged to accept the recommended treatment team while waiting for CBHT availability.
Includes both the Adult Detoxification Unit and the Adult Crisis Stabilization Center (ACSC).
Provides court-ordered drug treatment for adolescents.
Provides short-term crisis stabilization or respite care for youth. The parent/guardian must be willing to admit the patient. This center is available for people who don’t meet the level of care required for Marillac/Camber.
