2025 Community Survey
Johnson County continues to exceed national averages in satisfaction with the county, according to the 2025 community survey results.
The survey was administered in January and February 2025 via mail. A total of 1,212 surveys were completed, resulting in a 95% confidence level in the survey findings.
The survey sample was designed to ensure the results would be statistically representative of each of the county's six commission districts, and was sent to 1,000 randomly selected households from each district.
Of respondents, 86% identified as white, 9% Hispanic/Latino, 5% Asian or Asian Indian and 5% Black or African American. In addition, 64% of respondents have lived in the county for more than 20 years, and 88% live in a single-family home.

Life in the County
Life is good in Johnson County, according to residents. More than 9 out of 10 survey respondents approved of the county as a place to live and raise children.

Perceptions of the County
Residents are happy with various aspects of Johnson County – and their perceptions of life in the county surpass national averages.
Among respondents, 89% are satisfied with the quality of life in the county, while 88% are satisfied with the quality of public safety in the county. Additionally, 88% are satisfied with the overall image of the county, and more than two-thirds are satisfied with ease of travel.
Residents also have a positive perception of elections: 94% say polling places are conveniently located/accessible and 91% say the county has enough advance voting locations.
Service Quality
According to the survey, 76% of respondents are satisfied with the quality of county services overall, far exceeding the national average of 49% satisfaction.
Satisfaction remains especially high for the services residents find most important – the top five most important services also are the services with the highest satisfaction among respondents:
- Johnson County Park and Recreation District (87%)
- Johnson County Library (86%)
- Johnson County Emergency Medical/Ambulance Service (83%)
- Johnson County Emergency Preparedness/NotifyJoCo (81%)
- Johnson County Election Office (76%)
Priorities
Looking ahead, most respondents named safety and low crime as the county’s top priority for the next five years. They named health and human services as Johnson County Government’s most critical role for the next 10-20 years.
In general, respondents think medical/ambulance service is the most important service for the county to provide, followed by emergency preparedness/NotifyJoCo and Johnson County Park and Recreation District.
When it comes to housing, respondents think the county should focus its housing resources on energy efficiency improvements, as well as utility assistance and services for homeless populations.
