Classes focus on healthy living
Stay informed and take control of your health this fall. Johnson County Park and Recreation District’s 50 Plus Program is partnering with Johnson County, K-State Extension to provide classes on healthy living, nutrition and future medical planning.
Upcoming programs include:
- Pressure Cooking and Crockpot Meals – 10 a.m., Nov. 13, LongHouse Visitor Center, 9209 W. 179th St., Overland Park. Learn how to use kitchen gadgets to make quick and healthy meals and take home new recipes. Cost is $5 for Johnson County residents, $6 for nonresidents.
- Advanced Healthcare Directives – 10 a.m., Dec. 9, Tomahawk Ridge Community Center, Overland Park. This class explains the process and documents needed to prepare for future medical care if you are unable to speak for yourself. Cost is $5/$6 nonresidents.
- Developing Healthy Habits – 2 p.m., Dec. 12, New Century Fieldhouse. Explore how to create sustainable goals and routines around nutrition, exercise, sleep and stress management. Cost is $5/$6 nonresidents.
- Medicare: An In-Depth Look – 10 a.m., Dec. 16, LongHouse Visitor Center. Designed for soon-to-be and current beneficiaries, this free class offers information on coverage choices, healthcare options and benefits.
- Not-So-Sweet Facts About Sugar – 1 p.m., Dec. 18, Meadowbrook Park Clubhouse, Prairie Village, Learn how to identify added sugars in foods, why manufacturers use them and how to reduce sugar intake. Cost is $5/$6 nonresidents.
